Lucas Gomez Perez, originally from Guatemala, became part of El Camino Baptist Church in Laurel, Mississippi, in 2010. That same year, he was baptized, marking the beginning of his journey of faith and service. In 2013, he married Maria Lucas, also from Guatemala. Together they have built a Christ-centered family and are the parents of five children: Gerson, Catalina, Abraham, Josué, and Catarina.
In 2016, God began to burden Lucas’s heart for missionary work. As a result, he and his family answered the call to ministry and, in 2018, were sent by El Camino Baptist Church to establish a Baptist mission serving the Hispanic community in Canton, MS. For five years, the congregation met faithfully in the Gomez family’s home on Sundays and Wednesdays, where regular worship services and Bible studies were held.
Through God’s provision and the support of the BMA of Mississippi Revolving Loan Fund and Missions Department, the mission was able to purchase a three-acre property and relocate to 5520 Ridgewood Road in Jackson, Mississippi. The first official service at the new location was held on August 2, marking a significant milestone in the growth and development of the ministry.

Today, the mission serves between 18 and 25 people, including children, and gathers for worship on Sundays at 10:00 a.m. and prayer services on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. Guided by the vision, “One More for Christ,” the mission seeks to plant and strengthen a biblically grounded church in Jackson. Its goal is to provide a place where children, youth, and adults can experience spiritual growth, discipleship, and personal development in Christ. Lucas and his family continue to request prayer and support as they work to establish and expand Hispanic ministry outreach in the Jackson area.
